Summary of Insurance Terms and Conditions
Our cars are fully insured through If Skadeförsäkring, which means the insurance includes liability, comprehensive, and partial coverage. This provides extensive protection for any potential damages during the rental period.
Below is a summary of what the insurance covers and its limitations. The full terms can be found here. Please note that all damages are compensated according to the full terms and conditions.
What the insurance covers
The insurance is valid throughout the Nordic countries and other countries that are part of the Green Card system (excluding Iran, Morocco, and Tunisia).
The insurance covers the vehicle itself and equipment considered standard for cars. Car stereo systems, telecommunication, and other electronic equipment (including navigation systems) are covered if permanently installed. The insurance includes:
- Traffic Insurance: Covers personal injury to the driver, passengers, and other individuals outside the vehicle. It also covers damage to other people’s property, such as if you hit another vehicle or a guardrail.
- Fire: Compensation for damage to the car caused by fire, lightning strike, explosion, or short circuit.
- Theft: Compensation if the vehicle is stolen and for damage from break-ins/attempted theft, as well as crisis therapy in connection with carjacking or theft of car keys. The insurance also covers equipment and accessories considered standard for vehicles.
- Rescue/Towing:Towing the vehicle to a repair shop in the event of an accident, theft, or other breakdowns. Covers the cost of transporting the driver, passengers, and personal luggage home.
- Legal Protection:Covers legal representation and court costs up to 250,000 SEK in disputes related to the car rental.
- Glass: Covers repair or replacement of windows that are broken or cracked.
- Misfuelling: Covers up to 100,000 SEK for necessary cleaning and immediate consequential damage caused by fuelling with the wrong type of fuel, contrary to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Mechanical and Electronic Breakdown: Sudden faults affecting the function of the car, such as engine issues, electronic failures, gearbox problems, or powertrain disturbances.
- Collision Damage: Our passenger cars generally come with a collision damage guarantee. If this does not apply, our insurance still covers collision damage, including vandalism or other external accidental events (e.g., a tree falling on the car).
Important insurance limitations
The insurance does not apply in all situations, and there are safety regulations that describe how you must act to reduce the risk of damage. If you do not follow these rules, compensation may be reduced or, in some cases, denied entirely.
There are also other limitations in the insurance. You can read more about the rules that apply to different types of damages in the full terms and conditions.
The insurance does not cover:
- Damages covered by the manufacturer’s warranty or similar.
- Damage from driving on a closed race track.
- Unauthorized use of the vehicle.
- If the car was unlocked when not in use.
The maximum compensation from the insurance (excluding traffic insurance) is 4 million SEK.
Safety regulations
The insured must ensure that:
- The driver holds a valid driving license.
- The driver does not commit drunk driving.
- The car is not used when prohibited from driving.
- The car is not used in races or race training, or under race-like conditions such as street racing.
Deductibles ('Självrisk'):
- Collision damage: 9,000 SEK
- Traffic accident: 9,000 SEK
- Theft: 9,000 SEK
- Glass damage: 9,000 SEK (0 SEK for stone chip damage where the windshield can be repaired instead of replaced)
- Rescue: 9,000 SEK
- Misfuelling: 6,000 SEK (where no mechanical damage has occurred)
If a deductible reduction has been purchased, the deductible is reduced according to the terms of the agreement.
If the driver is under 25 years of age, an additional deductible of 1,000 SEK applies. The deductible may be higher if the damage occurred under circumstances where the driver committed a traffic offense. In a traffic accident where the driver is deemed responsible and third-party claims arise (so-called recourse), two deductibles may need to be paid: one for the damage to the insured vehicle and a separate one for the third-party recourse claim.
Deductible Reduction
Hyre also offers self-risk reduction. You can choose to add this insurance to your booking.
